Final Project Propolsal

1. For this project I wantto merge leisure/labor into a simulator that plays on the idea of “America’s Army” as a training program, except the simulation will be of a sweatshop factory worker. It will be a game that trains the player how to be a good sweatshop worker. Within the game the player will have to assemble items for the duration of the workday(Maybe there will “levels” of the duration as part of the training, 1st day will be 3 hours straight next day 5 and so on). They would not be able to stop for more then a min otherwise they will fail. They will be allowed one 5 min bathroom break. At the end of the work day it will calculate how much they earn based on how much items they made and will also show how much that item is actually going to be sold for.
2. If this was serious then the game would be made available in countries like China and India for ages 10 and above so they can prepare for a job as a sweatshop worker. Otherwise this project for people in this class and for people who play flash games when they’re bored and to factory workers.
3. Will need to do some research on conditions in sweatshop and how much workers get paid and the types of things that are assembled.
4. Will be made using flash.

I’m Interested in what inspired this idea. Along with the interaction design, the projects success depends on the visuals and rhetoric – making it seem like an official training program. This also entails being specific as to who is your audience. Don’t muddy your concept making it too broad based. If it’s for sweatshop workers in China and India then just go with that direction. It’s an interesting, ambitious project. I’d like to see some screen designs on Tues if possible. You only have a little over 2 weeks and I’d like to help you realize the project successfully. The screens can be rough but show examples of the worker’s tasks and how the player will complete the “work”. Also, how will you implement the timers and days? What is the name of the training program and what’s the tag line?
